Our Accounting Services

Starting a Business

Do you want to start a business because you are an entrepreneur with a great idea and the vision to realise it? Then we can help you.

Most people starting up in business do so because they have a good business proposition and the enterprise and commitment to see it through. What they find daunting, and even off-putting, is the fact you need to know about legal, financial, and fiscal aspects of running a business.

We can give you expert advice and help in relation to the following:

  • Assess the finance requirements of your business, advise on the best sources of finance and draw up the necessary proposals
  • Developing a business plan, cash-flow projection and profit forecasts
  • Choosing the right structure: sole trader, partnership or limited company
  • Complete any registration procedures with Companies House and HMRC
  • Choosing an accounting date
  • Establish a good working relationship with your bank
  • Help with all aspects of business compliance and administration

We can take care of all the company secretarial duties to meet the requirements of Companies House, such as appointments and resignation of directors and company secretary, filing annual returns and statutory accounts, maintaining of statutory books, registered office changes, drafting minutes of meetings etc.

Bookkeeping

To support your ongoing business decisions, we can assist you to produce accurate monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly financial reports for your business and show you how it can really save time, hassle and money.

Our approach is to firstly review your bookkeeping system and advise on ways of making the whole process more effective, efficient and meaningful. We can assist your in-house accounting team to develop such reports. You may require help to write up books or need us to add the finishing touches to information on your book keeping systems.

Alternatively, we can take up the role - just send us a copy of your accounting source documentation, and we will send you regular financial reports from our system. This will give you "peace of mind" so that you concentrate on what you are good at - running you business.

End of Year Accounts

Once your financial year end has passed, you will need annual accounts prepared that meet all the relevant reporting requirements and cater for the needs of your shareholders, Companies House, the HMRC, and third parties such as banks and suppliers. We can cater for all your annual accounts preparation needs.

For the sole trader, partnership and limited company, we can compile your full statutory annual accounts and submit them to the necessary authorities on your behalf. The accounts will be prepared promptly and to the highest standards in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Not only that we'll actively look for opportunities - opportunities to save tax, to improve the performance of your business as well as make your life easier.

Many clients prefer to outsource the entire accounting function to us in order to free them up to concentrate on running their business. Others prefer to retain responsibility for the day-to-day running of their accounts. We then work with them to provide the information to enable us to prepare the year-end accounts as cost-effectively as possible.

If you are a small company, you do not need to submit full statutory accounts to the Registrar of Companies. You therefore can submit what are known as abbreviated accounts to Companies House, which basically only discloses a Balance Sheet and some basic notes.

Personal Tax return

Whilst we specialise in preparing tax returns for businesses we are also able to help individuals who are self-employed or have rental property income. We pride ourselves on getting our clients the most accurate and lowest possible tax legally payable.

With personal tax more and more emphasis is being put on taxpayers' individual responsibilities to meet the strict compliance requirements. It is a common misconception that individuals only have to submit a self assessment tax return, if they receive one from the HMRC. All individuals have a legal obligation to notify the HMRC about any taxable income they receive during each tax year ending 5 April.

We can save you a lot of time, worry, and money by handling your self assessment for you. We will do all the necessary computations, complete your return, and even offer advice on how you can minimise your tax liability.

Business Tax Return

Under Corporation Tax Self Assessment (CTSA), the legal responsibility for correctly calculating the corporation tax liability falls on business owners. The increased reporting obligations, investigation policies on the part of the tax authorities and harsher penalties for non-compliance mean that your time and resources can be taken up with tax administration. For every accounting period for corporation tax, your company must file a self-assessment corporation tax return with HMRC. Your company must also pay its tax bill by the due date.

If your business is a limited company, we'll prepare the corporation tax return together with any necessary supporting schedules. And we'll tell you what to pay and when to pay it. We will also calculate your company's tax liability and assist with the calculation of any quarterly installment payments.

Effective corporate tax planning can also result in significant improvements in your bottom line. Some ways in which we can help are:

  • Advising on what expenditure is, and what is not, allowable against tax
  • Advising on the timing of fixed asset additions and maximising capital allowances claims
  • Obtaining advance clearances from HMRC in respect of particular complex transactions
  • Optimising the use of tax losses

We understand the issues facing owner-managed businesses so let us plan and prepare your tax returns in a timely and efficient manner.

Payroll

Administering your payroll can be time consuming and complex, diverting energy and resources from the core activities of your business. Furthermore, payrolls come in all types and sizes but they all have one thing in common - they're urgent!

We have a dedicated team of specialists geared up to provide a timely, accurate and flexible service, tailored to suit your needs. These services include:

  • Full administration of day-to-day payroll
  • Customised payslips
  • Meet the requirements of Collector of Taxes in respect of PAYE/NIC deductions
  • Completion of statutory forms
  • Monthly and yearly summaries and analysis of your staff costs
  • General advice on employment law issues

Our approach is to be flexible and accommodating to the requirements of the client.

Value Added Tax, VAT

Value added tax is one of the most complex and onerous tax regimes imposed on business - so often businesses inadvertently overpay or underpay VAT.

Some of our clients prepare their own VAT returns, others need more specialised services. No matter who does your bookkeeping, we'll not only prepare your VAT returns efficiently and promptly, we'll also tell you of any opportunities we spot - tax, VAT or business. We can help to ensure that you comply with the regulations and that overpayments are not made.

We provide an efficient VAT service, which includes:

  • Assistance with VAT registration
  • Advice on VAT planning and administration
  • Use of the most appropriate scheme
  • VAT control and reconciliation
  • Help with completing VAT returns
  • Planning to minimise future problems with HMRC
  • Negotiating with HMRC in disputes and representing you at VAT tribunals
